terms of service
the rules of the road for using nuuko
last updated: january 2025
the quick summary
nuuko is a journaling tool for personal reflection. It's provided "as is" without warranties. We're not responsible for lost data, and this is not a substitute for professional mental health care. By using nuuko, you agree to these terms.
1. what nuuko is (and isn't)
nuuko is:
- A personal journaling and reflection tool
- A space to track your moods and thoughts
- A way to notice patterns in your writing over time
nuuko is not:
- A medical or mental health service
- A replacement for therapy, counseling, or professional care
- A crisis intervention tool
If you're in crisis: Please reach out to a mental health professional or crisis helpline. In the US, call or text 988 for the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline.
2. your data, your responsibility
nuuko uses a local-first approach. This means:
- Local storage: Without an account, your entries are stored only in your browser. If you clear your browser data, they're gone.
- Backups: We recommend exporting your entries regularly from settings.
- Cloud sync: If you create an account and enable sync, your data is backed up to our servers (encrypted). But technology isn't perfect.
Bottom line: Keep your own backups. We do our best to protect your data, but we cannot guarantee it will never be lost.
3. limitation of liability
nuuko is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, either express or implied.
We are not liable for:
- Lost, corrupted, or inaccessible data
- Service interruptions or downtime
- Any decisions you make based on your journaling
- Emotional distress or mental health outcomes
- Third-party actions or breaches beyond our control
To the maximum extent permitted by law, nuuko's total liability to you for any claims arising from your use of the service is limited to the amount you paid us (which, for our free service, is zero).
4. acceptable use
You agree not to use nuuko to:
- Store illegal content
- Attempt to access other users' data
- Reverse engineer, decompile, or hack the service
- Overload our servers with automated requests
- Use the service for commercial purposes without permission
5. intellectual property
Your content: You own your journal entries. We don't claim any rights to what you write.
Our content: The nuuko name, logo, design, layout, "Gentle AI" prompts, and source code are our intellectual property. Unauthorized reproduction or "cloning" of the interface is strictly prohibited.
6. account termination
You can delete your account anytime from settings or by emailing us. We may also terminate accounts that violate these terms.
Upon termination:
- Your cloud-synced data will be deleted from our servers
- Local data on your device remains until you clear it
- We may retain anonymized, aggregated statistics
7. changes to these terms
We may update these terms from time to time. If we make significant changes, we'll notify you through the app or by email (if you have an account). Continued use after changes constitutes acceptance.
8. governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the jurisdiction where nuuko operates, without regard to conflict of law principles.
